An outdoor-hating mom's journey to embrace nature, teach her kids, and embrace homeschooling the Charlotte Mason way.
Even More Fun
My Story
I am a mom of one beautiful girl, two very different boys, wife of on hard-working hubby, best buddy of one sweet dog, and begrudgingly cheerful owner of two not-annoying cats.
After four years in public school- and the year my youngest went off to kindergarten- my husband and I started to have major reservations about what a public school education is starting to mean for our children. After careful thought and prayer, we have decided that spring of 2014 will be our children's last year attending a public school.
Homeschooling was always an option we were considering, but it was not something I was at all excited about. There are a variety of reasons why I didn't think I was a good fit for the "homeschool mom" vibe, but I knew it would take a miraculous change of heart to get to a place where I wanted to make that a reality. God has performed that miracle, and now I am very excited to begin this new journey with my family!
I had no idea that there were so many different schools of thought and philosophies on homeschooling! After reading descriptions of all of the different ways people "do" homeschool, the one that most closely resembled what I wanted for my kids was the Charlotte Mason method. I love literature, respectful children, and share the belief that one must teach the whole child and not just their mind.
There's just one small problem...
I hate the outdoors.
This blog is meant to chronicle my transition...
from reluctant public school mom to enthusiastic homeschool mom...
from the girl who despises the outdoors to the girl who loves fresh air...
from the hater of birds, bugs and bears to the chick who can get along with nature and identify flowers and trees...
from the introvert with no kids at home to the full-time teacher of her children.
It's bound to be an interesting journey.
